CCIE #25603

Well, it has been silent for a long time here on the blog. Sorry for that. Hopefully I have the time to change this.

In October I passed my lab, so now I am CCIE #25603. I took the R&S exam in Brussels. It was a long way to go, but it feels really good :-)

I used the materials from Internetwork Expert to study. I can recommend the workbooks, Class on Demand and the boot camps.

CCDE Beta Lab Exam

Now it goes for the people, who have managed to pass the CCDE Written Exam. Go to Chicago to take the beta lab.

More preparation after 1st try

Well, I was not successful on my first try. The reasons: time and knowledge. I had to many weak areas and therefore lost to many points.

You should be able to solve the basic stuff before lunch, then there is enough time for the rest.

If you cannot solve one part of a question, do not even think about the part you can solve, you will not get the points anyway. But beware, if the configuration is needed for solving later tasks, you have to invest time on this.

So, now QoS is my first of many areas I will focus on during the next month. I start again with CQ and PQ.

OSPF Default Route

The default route in ospf is generated by the command "default-information originate" or "default-information originate always", witch generates a default route under any condition. I put up a little tutorial for the "always" version.

OSPF and Frame Relay

I dived into the ospf network types again. It seems to me, that one should read the OSPF tasks in the lab first, then the Frame Relay tasks. One has to configure the FR the was OSPF needs it for the solution.

If possible one should use point-to-multipoint ospf network type. OSPF multicasts for bringing up neighborships, no DR ist elected and you do not need fill layer 2 reachability in frame relay.

Tomorrow I will try to learn about multicast.
